Meet June Alt

I began my legal career in 1997 as an attorney in the law department of MBNA America Bank, an innovative leader in credit card marketing and the company largely credited with “inventing” the affinity credit card. It was at MBNA that I learned the ins and outs of consumer lending, particularly co-brand credit cards. During my years at MBNA and continuing at Bank of America after they acquired MBNA in 2005, I honed my skills negotiating card partnership, licensing and sponsorship agreements with major charities and associations, universities, sports teams and regional financial institutions. In 2011, I was chosen among my peers to supervise a team of attorneys charged with supporting Bank of America’s U.S. credit card portfolio acquisition and divestiture activities. Under my leadership, my team successfully completed transactions of strategic importance to Bank of America, including the sale of more than $3 billion in credit card receivables.

In 2013, I joined a credit card marketing firm that specializes in retail private label programs. There I learned the nuance of private label consumer finance and negotiated private label credit card program agreements with brand name retailers. I also assumed lead roles in negotiating portfolio purchase and sale transactions and payment network agreements.

When invited in 2016 to join the highly regarded banking and finance group at Sidley Austin LLP, I welcomed the opportunity to practice side-by-side and learn from some of the most respected attorneys in the industry. During my time at Sidley I continued to represent traditional banks but also diversified into serving payment processors, money transmitters and other participants in the payments arena.

From serving in house at a Fortune 50 company to private practice at a prestigious law firm, I have accumulated a depth of experience and insight that informs each new project. I approach each deal with a clear-eyed view of my clients’ desired results and am adept at navigating the highly regulated financial services industry to help them achieve their objectives. My independence allows me to provide each relationship with highly skilled and individualized attention at competitive rates.
